Avalon Club Basketball🏀

Club Basketball is Avalon Basketball’s core basketball program and one of the largest youth basketball offerings in St. John’s, Newfoundland. Designed for athletes of all skill and experience levels, Club Basketball places players on a team based on their age and ability to ensure the right mix of challenge, development, and fun.

All athletes will participate in team practices, and will have the opportunity to represent the club in games, tournaments, and team outings!

Teams are typically made up of about 12-14 players, allowing for personalized coaching and maximum opportunity for in-game learning and development.

TRAINING & PRACTICE SESSIONS

Each team will practice weekly, with sessions focused on:

SKILL DEVELOPMENT
(ball handling, shooting, footwork, defense, etc.)

TEAM CONCEPTS
(offensive spacing, defensive systems, transition play)

BASKETBALL IQ
and situational understanding.

TEAM BUILDING
and leadership through sport.

We take pride in running structured, high-energy sessions designed to help every athlete improve and gain confidence.

AGE GROUP AND DIVISIONS

We offer programming for all youth age groups, with tailored formats for each developmental stage, including:

U10, U12, U14, U16, and U18 age divisions.

Our team is led by NCCP-trained coaches who are committed to supporting youth athletes in both skill and character development. With a focus on positive coaching, accountability, and basketball excellence, Avalon coaches are here to help every player level up.

We’re proud to be led by Coach Ethan Knight, the 2025 NLBA Minor Coach of the Year, alongside a talented and experienced coaching team.

Season Schedule & Payment Info

The Club Basketball season runs from September 2026 to June 2027, and includes:

  • Weekly practices (2x per week)

  • Opportunity to play in additional games and local tournaments

  • FREE membership to the Avalon Basketball 3v3 League

  • Evaluation weekend to determine team placement

  • Team-building and development events

If a practice is cancelled, it will be re-scheduled before the end of the club basketball season.

Payment Structure

  • Split into five semesterized payments:

    • Fall: 2 payments (one to reserve spot and one due in October on season opt-in date)

    • Winter: 2 payments (one due in January and one due in February)

    • Spring: 1 payment (one due in April)

  • All payments are $295 each (+HST)

TEAM TYPES & EVALUATION WEEKEND

During the first weekend of the season, athletes will participate in evaluation sessions. This helps us place each athlete on the team that best fits their skill, experience, and development goals. Our team types include:
