🏀 Avalon Club Basketball
Club Basketball is Avalon Basketball’s core basketball program and one of the largest youth basketball offerings in St. John’s, Newfoundland. Designed for athletes of all skill and experience levels, Club Basketball places players on a team based on their age and ability to ensure the right mix of challenge, development, and fun.
All athletes will participate in team practices, games, tournaments, and team-building activities.
Teams are made up of a maximum of 13 players, allowing for personalized coaching and maximum opportunity for in-game learning and development.
TRAINING & PRACTICE SESSIONS
Each team will practice twice per week, with sessions focused on:
SKILL DEVELOPMENT
(ball handling, shooting, footwork, defense, etc.)
TEAM CONCEPTS
(offensive spacing, defensive systems, transition play)
BASKETBALL IQ
and situational understanding.
TEAM BUILDING
and leadership through sport.

AGE GROUP AND DIVISIONS
We offer programming for all youth age groups, with tailored formats for each developmental stage:

U10 (Grades 2–4)
Split into two groups: Grades 2–3 and Grades 3–4
A fun and educational intro to basketball
Focus on learning the basics of the game while playing fun games and jamborees

U12 (Grades 5–6)
Designed for athletes ready to play against other teams and local competition
Emphasis on both team and individual development

U14 (Grades 7–8)
Competition level increases; no more fair play rules
Athletes compete in games and tournaments
A key stage for serious skill development

High-performance age groups
Intense practices and competitive game play
Focus on preparing athletes for the next level of basketball

Advanced training and elite competition
Focused on refining skills, building leadership, and preparing athletes for post-secondary basketball.
Our team is led by NCCP-trained coaches who are committed to supporting youth athletes in both skill and character development. With a focus on positive coaching, accountability, and basketball excellence, Avalon coaches are here to help every player level up.
We’re proud to be led by Coach Ethan Knight, the 2025 NLBA Minor Coach of the Year, alongside a talented and experienced coaching team.

Season Schedule & Payment Info
The 2025–26 Club Basketball season runs from September 2025 to May 2026, and includes:
Weekly practices (2x per week)
League games and local tournaments
Evaluation weekend to determine team placement
Team-building and development events
Payment Structure
Split into five semesterized payments:
Fall: 2 payments
Winter: 2 payments
Spring: 1 payment
All payments are $295 each
TEAM TYPES & EVALUATION WEEKEND
During the first weekend of the season, athletes will participate in evaluation sessions. This helps us place each athlete on the team that best fits their skill, experience, and development goals. Our team types include:

Avalon Elite (Boys PREP Team)
Designed for high-performance athletes
2 practices/week: One 2-hour & one 1.5-hour session
Includes strength and fitness training
Plans to travel off-island 2–3 times for elite competition
Also participates in local events

Avalon Club Teams (Boys Club Team)
Balanced, competitive teams
Focus on skill development and game growth
Suitable for all skill levels

Female First Academy (Girls Club Team)
A girls-only program designed to grow female basketball
