Code of Conduct and Policy for all parents and athletes to follow while attending our club program:

Polices:

  • Multiple Children Discount: If a parent registers multiple (3 or more) children into the program, the athlete entering the program with the lowest price will receive free admission to the program.

  • No Parents In Practices: No parents are aloud inside of practices. Parents are admitted to watch outside the gym doors, but we do not permit parents inside the gym as it is a distraction to athletes.

  • Respect: Athletes joining the program must respect the basketball environment. This means that athletes must always respect coaches, fellow athletes, as well as the gymnasium and equipment.

Official Code of Conduct:

  • Athletes and parents must respect all gymnasiums and equipment while attending Avalon Basketball programs.

  • Athletes and parents must act in a sportsmanlike manner and not display appearances of violence, through acts of temper or aggression to other athletes, officials, coaches, or spectators while attending Avalon Basketball programs.

  • Athletes must respect and be courteous to all organizers, volunteers, and others assisting in the staging of an event where the athlete represents Avalon Basketball.

  • In all cases, it is the responsibility of the parent/ guardian of an athlete to ensure the athlete is safe and ready for participation until the athlete’s program officially begins. There is no supervision provided by Avalon Basketball until the stated commencement times.

  • In all cases, the parent/ guardian of an athlete is responsible for the athlete on all property/ ground of Avalon Basketball facilities if an Avalon Basketball program is cancelled.

  • Parents are not permitted inside the gymnasium of any Avalon Basketball programs, with the exception of games or tournaments where permitted by Avalon Basketball.

  • As a member of a Avalon Basketball program, parents and athletes are aware that if any of these rules are broken or violated, the athlete can receive suspension or termination from the program if decided by the organization.

Media Rules:

  • Unless specifically notified, athletes and parents authorize the publication of any photography or video taken for or during this program for the use of promoting or advertising further.

Postponed Sessions:

  • In the event that a session is cancelled due to weather conditions, the session will not be re-scheduled.

  • In the event that a COVID-19 outbreak in Newfoundland forces our program(s) to shut down for an extended period of time - athletes may receive a partial refund in Avalon Basketball credit or the practices will be re-scheduled. This will be the decision of the leadership team of the Avalon Basketball staff.

  • COVID-19 related refunds will not be in the form of money/ currency, only Avalon Basketball credit will be given to athletes that were registered and payed for the programs that were postponed.

  • The amount of credit that will be given to the athlete will depend on the specific program that the athlete is registered for and the amount of practices that had been completed before the shutdown. The exact amount will be determined by the Avalon Basketball club and will be announced at an appropriate time after the shutdown.

  • Athletes that miss practices due to COVID-19 will not receive any form of refund.

Athlete Behavior in Practices

At Avalon Basketball, we are committed to creating a positive and productive environment for all athletes. To maintain this standard, athletes are expected to adhere to the following behavior guidelines during practices:

  • Commitment to Improvement: Athletes should arrive at each session prepared to learn, work hard, and improve their skills. Effort and focus are essential to individual and team success.

  • Respect for Coaches: Athletes must show full respect to their coaches at all times. This includes listening attentively, following instructions, and engaging in drills and activities without disruption.

  • Respect for Teammates: Teamwork and mutual respect are key values of Avalon Basketball. Athletes should treat all teammates with kindness and encouragement, fostering a supportive and inclusive environment.

  • Respect for the Gymnasium: The gymnasium is a shared space that must be treated with care. Any behavior that damages the facility or disrespects the space will not be tolerated.

Zero-Tolerance Policy: Any form of disrespect toward coaches, teammates, or the gymnasium will result in immediate consequences as outlined by the coaching staff. Repeated violations may lead to removal from practices or further disciplinary action.

By adhering to these guidelines, we can ensure that Avalon Basketball remains a place where athletes can thrive both on and off the court.
